I wake up and fail everyday.
Well at least that’s what it felt like at one point for a LONG TIME.
At the time I was trying to get a meeting with one of the largest DJ companies in the world. I was hoping to partner with them or sell my DJ School business to them.
If you have ever tried to get meetings with massive corporations as a small company you know how hard and INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING it can be.
It’s kind of like how I was with women in high school. I couldn’t close a screen door.
I’d just get shut down over, and over, and over again.
When trying to get in touch with the DJ companies I would send out dozens and dozens of carefully constructed emails.
I would call.
I would message them on social media.
I would go directly to their stores.
And NOTHING would happen.
Often they wouldn’t even respond.
At the time I had been working on the business for almost a year and NOTHING was working.
I did everything I could think of to try and get their attention.
And then one day the phone rang.
I’m not going to name the company but it is certainly one of the top 3 largest DJ companies in the world.
They agreed for me to meet with their CEO and marketing team.
After getting super exited and then shitting my pants shortly after I had the meeting lined up.
I was amped to say the least.
This partnership could literally make me a TON of money in a very short time! And open up all sorts of doors!
Then the meeting happened.
It went HORRIBLY.
Basically the CEO stated that unless you had over a few hundred thousand monthly users they weren’t interested in dealing with us at all.
The voice in the back of my head was like: FUCK YOU MAN!
If I had a few hundred thousand users I’d be on a yacht in Ibiza right now!
It sort of felt like my last ditch effort to get things working with the business.
I got fairly depressed for a few months and called a bunch of my mentors and friends.
Many of them extremely successful business people that own multimillion dollar businesses.
They all reacted pretty much the exactly the same.
“Oh well that sucks, whats next?”. Like nothing had even happened!’
I started to notice a pattern.
Virtually every single successful person I know has an incredibly resilient mindset when dealing with frustration and disappointment.
They know how to manage frustration and disappointment incredibly well!
It doesn’t phase them one bit.
It’s just like Winston Churchill once said:
“Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.”
It’s something I”m always working on, and I certainly still have a long ways to go.
A few months after the meeting I started working on the sites SEO and ad campaigns and managed to get ranked #1 for some of the most competitive keywords in the DJ business like “How to DJ”.
Some of the ad campaigns also started to work better.
It was overcoming the initial wall frustration that forced me to become more creative in coming up with other methods of making the business work.
While the business wasn’t a huge success, it was, and is still, profitable and provides a nice bit of passive income.
As Tony Robbins says: you have to learn how to handle frustration.
Frustration has the power to kill your dreams and turn positive thoughts into negative ones.
It might sound like some cheese ball self motivation hooray to some people but I believe it’s true 100%.
